RSECS houses three departments and offers six undergraduate degrees, along with several graduate programs. Our small classes, engaged faculty, and atmosphere of experimentation and collaboration to offer our students a multi-dimensional education that prepares them to excel and innovate in science and technology. Academic support resources such as faculty advising, teaching assistants, near-peer tutors, student clubs, and more are all part of the student support system run through the Dean’s office for all three departments.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Mechanical Engineering department are both fast-paced, dynamic and innovative environments emphasizing high quality teaching and research in engineering applications. The ECE department focuses on applications related to hardware/software interfacing, communications and signal processing, computer vision and pattern recognition, optoelectronics, power and energy systems, robotics, and mechatronic systems, while the ME Department focuses on applications related to biomechanics, robotics, materials, fluids, heat transfer and additive manufacturing. The ECE AND ME departments are highly collegial and committed to a climate of respect and inclusiveness.

Position Summary

This position provides broad administrative and operational support to the ECE AND ME departments and performs a wide range of administrative duties and operational functions in support of the faculty, staff, and students. The position reports to both the Chairs of the ECE AND ME Departments and works closely with the Dean’s office staff and other department coordinators.

Essential Functions

  • Manage hiring process for student workers (work study, GTA, GRA), adjunct faculty and faculty summer positions
  • Manage purchases to support departments and faculty research
  • Maintain records of department budget and finances
  • Support regular operations, including courses, seminars, faculty searches, preparations for accreditation reviews/visits or other departmental events
  • Support course scheduling and student academic advising
  • Support graduate application process and maintain graduate student records
  • Route forms, agreements and contracts through the appropriate review process
  • Manage incoming and outgoing communication, document control, and preparing reports
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills to include verbal and written communication.
  • Proven planning and organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail; demonstrated initiative and independent judgment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent mathematical skills for budget analyses and fiscal planning; strong quantitative reasoning skills for data tracking projects.
  • Excellent logical thinking and creative solution generation.
  • Ability to quickly learn new administrative software platforms.
  • Ability to work well with a team as well as work independently.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or equivalent from two-year college; or two to three years of administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to three years of responsible administrative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is 8.

Hourly Range

The hourly range for the position is $27.00 - $30.00.
