Position Summary The law school’s Lawyering Process Program instructs first-year students in foundational elements of legal research and writing, document drafting, and professional practice skills. The Program is one of the nation’s most respected, currently ranked among the Top 30 legal writing programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.We seek to hire a faculty member to teach in our Lawyering Process Program as a Visiting Assistant Professor of the Practice of Law, beginning on or before August 1, 2026. The successful candidate will teach two sections of Lawyering Process in both the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Essential Functions Teach two sections of Lawyering Process – a required, first-year, two-semester course that exposes students to the foundational elements of legal research and writing, document drafting, and professional practice skills. Engage in outstanding and innovative teaching, imparting relevant knowledge and professional skills. Collaborate with other colleagues in the Lawyering Process Program to adapt and incorporate innovative, inclusive, and effective teaching methods and to advance the impact, stature, and visibility of the Program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods. Outstanding teaching skills. Initiative and the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment. Required Qualifications A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school Excellent legal research, analysis, reasoning, writing, and communication skills At least two years of post-J.D. legal work Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience at an accredited law school Working Environment Standard office environment. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high. Noise level is quiet to moderate. Physical Activities Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus. Work ScheduleWhile the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas.
