The Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of Denver is hiring a tenure-track assistant professor with research and teaching expertise in remote sensing. The specialty area within remote sensing is open. We seek a faculty member that would specifically contribute to our GIScience programs, as well as our programs in geography, environmental science, and sustainability, where applicable. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake an active program of research that leads to publication in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets and the pursuit of external funding. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach introductory and advanced remote sensing courses, as well as other courses of interest, and supervise MA, MS, and Ph.D. students and undergraduate research projects. This is a 9-month faculty position that begins September 1, 2024.

Colorado has over 30 federally funded science research centers, including National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA); National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL); U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR). We are a consortium member of the Rocky Mountain Research Data Center (RMRDC), allowing access to nonpublic federal data for research in the spatial, environmental, and health sciences, as well as in economics and demography. The region also boasts a strong tech industry, including several geospatial companies such as ESRI and Maxar. Our department maintains working relationships with these local industries, providing faculty with research collaborations and many student internship opportunities.

About the Department of Geography and the Environment
The Department of Geography & the Environment is a community of 17 faculty members, 75 graduate students, and over 300 undergraduate students. The department offers a PhD in geography, MA and MS degrees in geography and geographic information science (including an online MSGISc program), and undergraduate degrees in geography, environmental science, and geographic information science. - Teach introductory and advanced remote sensing courses.
- Contribute additional courses in support of the undergraduate geography and environmental science programs, as well as graduate courses in area of specialization.
- Supervise undergraduate research projects, MA, MS, and Ph.D. students.
- Maintain an active research agenda.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in remote sensing.
- Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in remote sensing, other geospatial topics, and/or courses that complement the department’s areas of specialization.
- Ability to deliver courses in person, with flexibility to pivot online if needed.
- Ability to learn and use Canvas LMS for instructional purposes.
- Ability to maintain an active research agenda, including publishing scholarship, attending conferences, making scholarly presentations, and pursuing research grants.
- PhD in Geography, or closely related field at time of appointment
- Expertise in Remote Sensing
- Evidence of an active research program through publications and conference presentations with the potential for external funding
- Ability to teach Introductory and Advanced Remote Sensing
- Research and/or teaching expertise also in the areas of GIS
- Experience in teaching university-level remote sensing courses
- Teach other courses that contribute to our programs in geography, environmental science, and sustainability.
- Standard office environment.

- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The salary grade for the position is UC.
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000.
