As the University’s largest and most varied academic unit, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is comprised of artists, learners, performers, scholars, scientists, and teachers across 21+ departments, programs, schools, and centers and acts as a central hub where many of the University's disciplines intersect. Nearly all 6,000 undergraduates at the University take liberal arts courses with us, and about one-third of these students declare a first major in a CAHSS program. The School of Art and Art History (SAAH) offers a BA and BFA in Studio Art, a BA in Art History, MA in Art History with a Museum Studies concentration option, and a BA, BFA in Emergent Digital Practices. The Studio Program has 60 majors. The Art History program has about 20 art history majors and 30 MA degree students in art history, most with an added concentration in Museum Studies. SAAH also serves undergraduate students across campus in the common curriculum.
Position Summary
The School of Art and Art History at the University of Denver invites applications for one-academic year, Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor, (VTAP) one-half (50%) position in Foundations, beginning September 2025, through June 2026.
We are seeking a dynamic exhibiting artist/teacher with an ability to teach spatial thinking, the fundamentals of structure and construction, and the formal language of three dimensional forms at a foundational level. The 3D Foundations curriculum covers a variety of materials, additive and subtractive methods, basic mold making, and hand tools. Emphasis is placed on subjectivity, artistic choice and craft, alongside the beginnings of content and conceptual development.
Essential Functions
- Teach four (4) 3D Approaches courses in-person, on-campus over 3 academic quarters (fall, winter, spring)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Scholarly expertise in the creation of three-dimensional artwork.
- Excellent undergraduate teaching skills with the ability to teach courses at the foundations level.
- Ability to interact constructively with all populations of faculty, staff, and students.
- Excellent skills in oral and written communication.
Required Qualifications
- MFA in Sculpture or related field by the time of appointment.
- Undergraduate teaching experience in related field.
- Active exhibition record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate teaching experience as the sole instructor for the course.
- Ability to work independently and fulfill teaching duties without assistance.
Work Schedule
Faculty positions are on 9-month appointments.

Salary Rate
The salary rate for this position is $25,000.
