About the Department of Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences focuses on three areas of research and teaching; 1) Cell and Molecular Biology – including biophysics, neuroscience, cell signaling, and developmental biology, and 2) Ecology, Biodiversity – including behavioral ecology, plant-insect interactions, conservation biology, restoration ecology, and evolution and 3) Physioilogy of Health and Disease including emphasis on human physiology and exercise physiology. The department offers undergraduate majors of study including Biology (B.A./B.S.), Molecular Biology (B.S./B.S.), Ecology, and BioDiversity (B.A./B.S.) Physiology of Health and Disease (BS) and Integrated Sciences (B.A.).  A concentration in Cognitive Neurosciences (B.A./B.S.) is also offered in conjunction with the Department of Psychology.  At the graduate level, the department offers M.S. and Ph.D. with a research emphasis in either cell and molecular biology or ecology and biodiversity. A professional science masters (PSM) in Biomedical Sciences and a Masters in Clinical Exercise Physiology are offered.

Position Summary

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Denver invites applications for Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor or Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) for the academic year 2026-2027 beginning September 1, 2026. The position will be responsible for teaching courses in our Masters in Clinical Exercise Physiology graduate program and related upper-level undergraduate courses. Specific courses include Clinical Exercise Physiology, Exercises Testing and Prescription, ECG Interpretation, and Nutritional Physiology and could include an introductory course, Physiological Systems. The duties include teaching six courses per year (quarter system).

Essential Functions

Teaching, advising, and mentoring of CEP graduate students and contributing to the teaching in the undergraduate physiology major. Teaching areas of expertise include but are not limited to Nutritional physiology, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physiology, ECG Interpretation, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Exercise testing & prescription, Clinical Exercise Physiology, or special-topics courses.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in Exercise physiology or from a related life science discipline or appropriate terminal degree such as in Physical Therapy or clinical exercise physiology for the Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching and developing courses related to clinical exercise physiology.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$75,000
