Located within the Office for Faculty Affairs within the Office of the Provost, the current mission of the Office of Teaching and Learning is to improve student learning across the University by fostering innovation and strengthening practices in teaching, course design, curriculum development, and assessment. The OTL staff supports faculty by advancing skills in course design, pedagogy, and academic assessment.
The Office for Faculty Affairs
The Office for Faculty Affairs welcomes and orients new faculty to DU; coordinates faculty development programs across campus; serves as a central resource for information about faculty and faculty policies; supports deans and department leaders with searches, hiring, retention, and advancement; assists faculty with grievances; offers programs to orient new academic leaders; supports programs to improve teaching; and works with departments, colleges, and other offices to enhance faculty experiences.
Information Technology – Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS)
Dedicated to quality, innovation, engagement, integrity, and inclusion, Information Technology/Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS) maintains the highest standards in providing a wide range of software solutions to units throughout the University. IT/EAS maintains software systems that support the University’s core business, as well as develops custom applications in partnership with DU departments to enhance services to our community. Our services range from consultation to implementation to continuous support of software solutions. Services include:

IT/EAS ensures the current and future software applications are efficient and effective, maintains an appropriate balance between leading-edge activities and core business processes, and provides appropriate information access and data security.
IT/EAS is responsible for all aspects of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Database Management, Data Warehouse administration, Information Analytics (BI), Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems such as Student Recruitment CRM; Student Success CRM; and Advancement CRM, Learning Management System (LMS), Document Management and Workflow.
Position Summary
The Business Analyst reports to the IT/Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS) department in the Division of Information Technology (IT). The Business Analyst is physically located in the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) and works in close collaboration with the application developers in IT/EAS and the OTL and VPFA staff.
The Business Analyst is primarily responsible for the configuration, administration, and support of multiple instructional applications (e.g., Canvas LMS, Kaltura, Digication Respondus, Turnitin, etc.), business process needs analysis, and operational data reporting and analysis. This position will interface with the OTL, Office for Faculty Affairs, software vendors, and IT/EAS application developers to maintain and support applications and interfaces. This position will also be responsible for responding to production support issues, coordinating system enhancements and upgrades, writing ad-hoc reports, and managing cross-functional projects.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the functional subject matter expert and primary system administrator of instructional technologies, including but not limited to Learning Management System (Canvas); Video Management System (Kaltura); E-Portfolio (Digication); Proctoring Technologies (Respondus); and assessment software.
- Identify, gather, and document business requirements from users and stakeholders.
- Perform configuration tasks to satisfy requests from end users for enhancements and fixes.
- Work with IT/EAS to coordinate the design, testing, and deployment of system enhancements, process automations, and integrations between these systems, the enterprise ERP (Ellucian Banner), and other systems.
- In partnership with OTL and Office for Faculty Affairs staff, develop test use cases and perform user acceptance testing for upgrades and enhancements.
- Track and document changes in functional requirements and write detailed procedures that can be easily understood by users.
- Provide enterprise-wide tier-2 and tier-3 application support. Develop recommendations and coordinate issue resolution with IT/EAS and software vendors. Troubleshoot, identify, and track software issues to ensure resolution. Document and communicate problem resolutions.
- Oversee user and license management, including new user setup/deactivation, roles, profiles, and permissions.
- Perform frequent data quality checks to ensure system data is accurate.
- Analyze and evaluate current business processes, workflows, reports, and tools. Make recommendations for development, improvement, or simplification.
- In partnership with OTL and Office for Faculty Affairs staff, develop appropriate training materials to support end-user training, including the Ed-Tech Knowledge Base.
- Assist the OTL and Office for Faculty Affairs with internal assessment and participant tracking, including data management, descriptive statistics, report building, and data visualization.
- Research, configure, and schedule standardized reports within the applications.
Create ad-hoc reports, data queries, standard reports, and dashboards to support business needs. - Collaborate with OTL and IT/Campus Partnerships on developing University policies and processes for instructional technology applications.
- Responsible for multiple projects or large complex projects with cross-functional teams.
- Primary technology liaison between the OTL, Office for Faculty Affairs, IT/EAS, and software vendors.
- Coordinate regularly scheduled meetings with the OTL, the Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs, or other Faculty Affairs staff, and IT/EAS.
- Partner with the OTL, Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs, or other Faculty Affairs staff, and IT/EAS teams to prioritize projects using the IT prioritization rubric.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General understanding of instructional practices
- Basic knowledge of learning management systems and instructional technologies used for proctoring, assessment, video management, and e-portfolio management
- Understanding of program assessment, including the ability to perform basic data analysis and visualization
- Strong knowledge of SQL

Required Qualifications
Business Analyst I
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a business analyst position
- Entry level to 2 years of experience or coursework specific to business analysis
Business Analyst II
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a business analyst position
- 3-5 years of experience as an application administrator or business analyst
- Experience with SQL
Preferred Qualifications
Business Analyst I
- Degree in business administration, computer information systems, management information systems, or other related field
- Experience with SQL and reporting software (Cognos, Tableau, etc.)
- Experience working with learning management systems and/or educational/instructional technologies
- Experience in a higher education working environment
Business Analyst II

Salary Range
Business Analyst I
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $72,000.
Business Analyst II
The salary range for this position is $74,000 - $84,000.
