Position Summary

The Early Childhood Interventionist/BCBA at Fisher Early Learning Center at the University of Denver supports inclusive, high-quality learning environments by conducting weekly classroom observations and modeling, developing individualized behavior and instructional support plans, and coaching educators in developmentally appropriate and evidence-based practices. This role provides direct consultation to teaching teams, student workers, and families, offering real-time modeling, written feedback, and training aligned with the needs of diverse learners. The interventionist works closely with the FIT team to support differentiated instruction, asses and analyze student progress data, and oversee the implementation of behavioral interventions and accommodations across classrooms. The role requires collaboration with Fisher staff, administrators, and outside therapists for consistent and aligned support for all children within the center. 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Conducts weekly observations in classrooms to monitor practices and child development. 

  • Provides written and verbal feedback to teachers on instructional strategies and supports for specific children. 

  • Models and coaches staff on implementing developmentally appropriate practices and behavioral interventions. 

  • Develops written strategies and notes for families of children served by the FIT team. 

  • Communicates regularly with teachers, families, and the FIT team to align supports and track progress. 

  • Supports differentiation of instruction for children of all abilities using student data and observation. 

  • Designs and delivers professional development for teachers and student workers on inclusive practices and behavioral supports. 

  • Attends and contributes to weekly team meetings and monthly primary classroom meetings. 

  • Maintains accurate documentation and completes other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Strong understanding of child development, inclusive early childhood practices, and behavioral interventions. 

  • Expertise in accommodations, modifications, and differentiation strategies. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead trainings and speak to groups. 

  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, judgment, and flexibility. 

  • Working knowledge of Child Find, IDEA, Colorado Early Intervention, IFSP/IEP processes, RtI, and MTSS frameworks. 

  • Ability to analyze student progress data and use it to inform instructional and behavioral planning. 

  • Comfortable using technology to document, communicate, and support instruction. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, equity, and family-centered support. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Special Education or related field. 

  • Valid Colorado teaching license in Special Education or BCBA certification required. 

  • Minimum 3 years of classroom teaching experience. 

  • At least 5 years of experience implementing accommodations and modifications for children with special needs. 

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986. 

  • Must meet all CDE certification requirements. 

Work Environment and Physical Demands 

  • Must be able to move throughout classrooms and engage with children at their level (kneeling, sitting, stooping, etc.). 

  • Occasional climbing, balancing, crouching, or crawling may be required. 

  • Noise level is moderate and typical of a busy early childhood setting. 

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. 

Hourly Range: 
The hourly range for the position is $30.00 - $45.00 and this role works approximately 10 hours per week (Wednesday and another day during the week). 

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
