Throughout its 75-year history, the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) has administered numerous externally funded projects serving children and families. The Butler Institute for Families (Butler), established in 1994, is affiliated with GSSW and is nationally recognized for our leadership and collaborative work at the national, state, and local level in evaluation, research, and technical assistance aimed at improving the quality of child-, youth-, and family-serving systems.

We bring together researchers, practitioners, public and private service system experts, and community members to: engage in program evaluation and research; examine outcomes; and provide technical assistance and training to program administrators, direct service providers, and community leaders. Currently, Butler conducts business in four primary content areas: child welfare, early childhood systems, tribal child welfare, and behavioral health. These content areas operate within a Research-to-Practice framework that promotes the use, adoption, adaptation, replication, and scaling of research and/or evaluation knowledge, and the integration of this knowledge in practice. Position Summary

This new position within Butler, the Creative Production Program Associate, will support the work of Butler’s Creative Team through a variety of activities related to product development, including graphic design of documents and presentations, scheduling of social media channels, and website maintenance support. This position will help to create innovative and user-focused solutions for multiple projects across Butler’s content areas of child welfare, behavioral health, tribal child welfare, and early childhood and education working with child and family-serving human service agencies across the nation. This position will use creative and technical skills to enhance Butler’s organizational profile and project work. The individual in this position must demonstrate a commitment to the principles of Inclusive Excellence and actively participate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work led within Butler. This is a grant-funded position, and while Butler often has new projects that can replace a project that ends, Butler cannot guarantee positions after the end of grant-funding.

Essential Functions

Project-Specific Product Design and Development 

  • Using a solid understanding of the goals of the project, create graphic design and formatting for documents, PowerPoint presentations, and templates under guidance from project leads and/or Principal Investigators that reflect client branding and audience, adhere to current accessibility standards, and incorporate culturally appropriate imagery.
  • Contribute to scheduling of social media post deployment using Hootsuite (training provided)
  • Learn and assist in maintaining Butler website, including publishing of new page content, news features, and staff bio pages (training provided)
  • Collaborate with creative team members to determine assignment of tasks and activities based on skills, interests, and availability
  • Adhere to established timelines and independently manage assigned components of the work with multiple stakeholders and tasks

Stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination 

  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients, programs, and other key project stakeholders
  • Demonstrate understanding of and sensitivity to the historical and contemporary political and social contexts of Indigenous communities and individuals
  • Communicate and engage with colleagues and external stakeholders in an effective and tactful manner via phone, video conference, and email
  • Engage with project teams through project management software platforms

Other Duties 

  • Attend and participate in DU and Butler-related meetings, training, and activities, including organizational workgroups and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • May supervise an intern or work study

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint
  • Beginning skills in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Interest in or beginning skills in Drupal or other content management software
  • Comfort in learning new software programs
  • Ability to work with members of diverse cultures and communities with respect and humility
  • Ability to learn, reflect, and practice cultural humility with others within Butler and with project partners
  • Ability to participate in action steps with colleagues to move Butler to an anti-racism, multi-cultural organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required to communicate and collaborate effectively across Butler and with a variety of stakeholders in person, by phone, over email, video conference, and through written project materials
  • Demonstrated ability to bring a creative eye to all tasks
  • Strong organization and time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize competing deadlines and timelines

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Highschool diploma/GED with equivalent product development experience.
  • Two or more years’ experience in product development and production (social media/marketing, graphic design)
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products; ability to learn new software quickly and efficiently
  • Experience with email marketing software (ex: Campaign Monitor, Mailchimp etc.) or with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter)
  • Experience working with members of diverse cultures and backgrounds different than their own
  • Experience using culturally responsive product development approaches

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, government, human services, or within university settings
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including significant experiencing formatting, editing, using styles, and creating aesthetic visual presentations using PowerPoint
  • Experience using project management software tools (such as Microsoft Teams or Teamwork)
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, or Photoshop)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Passion to work in a social justice-focused organization

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Primarily remote work. Option to work outside of the Denver area with occasional travel for projects and twice yearly in-person staff meetings in Denver

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 11.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
