Department Summary

SAIE BODR (Business Operations and Division Resources) creates partnerships that empower, educate and support student and staff stakeholders by providing resources and services that support the mission of SAIE. BODR is the foundation of SAIE that stewards financial, human and information technology resources through the budget development, forecast and fiscal year end processes; administers university and departmental policies and procedures for financial, business, personnel, and IT practices provides guidance and counsel related to business practices. BODR is the primary conduit between departmental hiring managers for all personnel activities within DU including HRIC, Compensation, Payroll and Talent Acquisition, and is a liaison with the Controller’s and Budget Office for compliance and audit matters.

Position Summary

The Business Officer I is a front-facing representative for BODR maintaining positive approaches, attitude, and commitment to service towards stakeholders and colleagues in a variety of circumstances. This position, in collaboration with the BODR team, manages all aspects of financial and human resource functions for all departments within SAIE. This position will be the primary point of contact for the expanding and developing portfolio such as the 4D Experience program, and primary contact for the management and tracking of the divisions Graduate Student Assistants (GSA’s), student hiring, and procure to pay activities. This position will cross-train with team members to ensure the BODR office provides comprehensive support to SAIE.
This position reports to a senior Business Officer within the Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence (SAIE) business office. This is a 0.8 FTE, 30 hours per week benefitted position.

Essential Functions

Financial

  • Processes direct pays, journal entries, invoices, deposits, contracts, purchases orders, requisitions, and other financial transactions
  • Review and approve P-Card reports for accuracy and adherence to DU policy and procedures
  • Compile and summarize financial data to participate in budget analysis and forecasting
  • Meet with directors and department leadership to review Data Insight reports, resolve and correct inconsistencies, and support their budget management responsibilities

Human Resources

  • Process all human resource transactions; posting positions and tracking status, review job descriptions, job change requests, hiring and separations
  • Review and assist with payroll transactions verifying accuracy. Process payroll redistributions as necessary, monthly payroll in PHATIME, salary adjustments, job title and supervision changes
  • Attend quarterly HRIC meetings, share updates on policies and procedures to SAIE departments

Administrative

  • Oversees day-to-day business operations, assignment, review, and processing Wrike request tickets
  • Write and publish articles on business and HR processes
  • Apply applicable internal control procedures to all work
  • Contribute to process improvement activities
  • Collaborate and work with campus partners (Controller’s Office, Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Payroll) and academic units as necessary to ensure accuracy and efficiency in budget and HR processes.
  • Develop and present budget and HR training to various departments and colleagues

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Language Skills

  • This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills and involves meeting with staff, students, [occasional] faculty, and community partners. This position involves writing memos and reports as requested.

Mathematical Skills

  • A basic understanding of accounting math is required. The ability to understand managing actual expense and revenue to a budget.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis is preferred.

System Applications

  • Familiarity with general ledger system (Banner). Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Some experience with data query / Cognos Query; Tableau or other reporting / data tools.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to understand and relate to complex theories and concepts.
  • Ability to concentrate on details, while managing interruptions.
  • Ability to multi-task across assignments given to self and others for an extended period.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university
  • One year experience in business operations or administration management (including experience in financial and / or budget management and human resources activities)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field
  • Two years’ experience in business operations or administration management (including experience in financial and / or budget management and human resources activities)
  • Experience working in a higher education or not-for-profit environment
  • Knowledge of Banner, Concur, and Kronos

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment, unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high, noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • Able to manage to firm deadlines.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for an extended period of time, occasionally required to move about the office/campus 

Work Schedule
30 hours a week, schedule can be accommodated to 4 days a week, 7.5 hours a day or 5 days a week, 6 hours a day.  In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Hourly Range:
