The mission of the University of Denver's Health & Counseling Center is to enhance overall student well-being and success through inclusive physical and mental healthcare, prevention, education, advocacy, and recovery support services. The HCC is an on-campus facility with two counseling locations open 8am-5pm M-F with evening hours until 7pm two to three evenings a week during the academic year. The HCC provides a wide range of on-site medical and mental health services, along with advocacy, recovery and health promotion for the whole campus community. The Staff Counselor/Psychologist: Coordinator for Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Support Services provides leadership, visioning and direction around the coordination of substance use treatment for the University of Denver campus community. This includes but is not limited to specialized individual and group counseling for students that are struggling with substance use issues, partnership and collaboration with the collegiate recovery program (CRP), and outreach and collaborating with campus departments that frequently address substance use issues, e.g. Student Rights and Responsibility (SRR). Additionally, the AOD coordinator is a member of the Counseling Services senior staff and provides general counseling services, outreach, and supervision for the training program(s). This position collaborates with Health Promotion and CRP staff to ensure comprehensive and integrated prevention and intervention programming. Occasional evening and weekend programming/outreach is required.
- Provide direct counseling/psychotherapy services and workshops to DU students who are dealing with issues related to alcohol or other drug use.
- Provide general counseling/psychotherapy services to DU students including individual, couples and group counseling.
- Provide crisis intervention services for students, including students dealing with issues surrounding alcohol and/or substance use.
- Supervise trainees on administering outcome appointments for students referred by SRR including AOD/outcome related clinical documentation.
- Provide trainings to staff and trainees on AOD related topics.
- Serve as an expert/consult for other staff and trainees working with clients with AOD concerns.
- Maintain client records in a timely manner and according to state guidelines and Health and Counseling Center procedures.
- Serve as a liaison to Student Rights and Responsibilities, Campus Safety, and Housing and Residential Education related to AOD issues, policies and treatment.
- Participates in trainee supervision, recruitment, selection, training and evaluation as appropriate.
- Collaborate with Health Promotion (HP) and CRP to conduct campus assessment of the needs and gaps in substance use services and provide recommendations for new service areas.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to function independently with a broad perspective, maturity, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Ability to function independently and to supervise and train several personnel.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with various students, coworkers, and departments with a positive attitude and to adapt to change with equanimity.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion through involvement and participation in department and university/division-wide projects and initiatives.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office environment, especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, and the ability to communicate effectively through email is essential. Familiarity and experience with electronic medical records systems is desirable.
- LCSW, LMFT, LPC.
- Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or equivalent (two years of full-time substance use counseling work and specific training on AOD topics).
- Experience treating clients with alcohol and other drug related issues.
- Experience with crisis management/intervention.
- Experience providing counseling/psychotherapy/supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Inclusive Excellence.
- LCSW or Licensed Psychologist (licensed-eligible within three months of hire).
- Leadership experience.
- Experience working on a college campus.
- Experience providing clinical supervision.
Typically 8:00am-5:00 pm M-F with occasional weekends and evenings. This position works one 10 am -7 pm shift per week during the academic quarters.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.
The salary range for this position is $75,000-$85,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
